Brandenburg GmbH (located in Paderborn, Germany) is the company behind LucidShape, the most powerful and advanced software tool for computer aided lighting design tasks. The company’s field of expertise consist of (but is by no means restricted to) automotive lighting areas.
Founded in 1998 by Willy Brandenburg, Brandenburg GmbH currently has a team of 12 lighting engineers and scientific software specialists and is continuously growing. Besides constantly developing LucidShape and its several derivates, Brandenburg GmbH’s business fields are automotive lighting consulting and development and general software on demand production.
Brandenburg GmbH’s profound expertise has brought the company a broad world-wide client base, including most of the well-known OEMs and lamp manufacturers as well as a significant share of the international aftermarket.

Company History and Landmarks:
- 1998: Foundation of Brandenburg GmbH
- 2000: Publication of LucidStudio 1.0, the first software on the market being able to design, calculate and simulate an optical setup directly “by function”, i.e. by its intended lighting behavior. The tool becomes a huge success right from the start.
- 2002: Implementation of the Macrofocal Concept into LucidShape, bringing the potential to create unrivalled sharp cutoff lines for low beam patterns.
- 2004: Publication of LucidDrive 1.0, a night drive simulation tool.
- 2005: Introduction of the LED model library toolbox.
- 2010: Winner of the German LED street lighting contest (BMBF).
- 2011: Release of GPU Trace, a new ultra fast simulation method that transfers all relevant ray trace calculations to the computer’s video card.

Willy Brandenburg, CEO: Having been a member of staff and senior executive at Hella KG in Lippstadt for seventeen years, Mr. Brandenburg founded the company in 1998 to develop and market LucidShape.
After 13 years of continued success and growth, he leads a team of highly skilled and motivated specialists with undiminished energy. Willy’s main areas of work are international client coordination and contracting services, at the same time being the driving force behind the development of LucidShape and the high quality of automotive lighting solutions.
